Lürssen Yachts: 140 Years Of Yachting Experience, One Article

Based in Germany, L?rssen is the leading shipyard for large luxury yacht building. After having impressed their visitors with the stunning Esther III, showcased at the Monaco Yacht Show 2015, the family-owned and operated shipbuilder L?rssen takes part in the Dubai International Boat Show 2016, looking back on their 140-year history in the creation of customized yachts of truly outstanding excellence. But this remarkable milestone is also an occasion to look forward: at its seven state-of-the-art shipyards in northern Germany, L?rssen continues to set new standards in technology, design and luxury.

L?rssen?s connection to shipbuilding is as deep-rooted and individual as only family bonds can be. After four generations and 140 years of cultivating the most refined skills and advanced technologies, the shipbuilding family can look back on a number of remarkable achievements.

These include the world?s first boat propelled by an internal combustion engine, launched nearly 130 years ago ? the motorboat Rems, which marked the beginning of a blossoming motorboat market and L?rssen?s rise to market leadership.

Another milestone constitutes the L?rssen-Daimler, with an 8-meter wooden hull and 102 hp gasoline engine, won the 1911 Champion of the Sea race in Monaco with Friedrich L?rssen?s son Otto at the helm. After setting a new world speed record, the L?rssen-Daimler went on to win the Prix de la Cote d?Azur and the Grand Prix des Nations in the same year.

The spirit of innovation and nautical excellence that made these achievements possible continues to this day in every yacht L?rssen builds ? including such milestones in the shipbuilding industry as Carinthia VII, the sailing yacht EOS and L?rssen?s most recent major achievement, the completion of the world?s largest yacht, Azzam, in 2013. The 180-meter vessel is extraordinary not only due to her length, but also due to her exceptional speed of 30 knots and record building time of just three years. ?We at L?rssen build ships for our clients,? says Managing Director Peter L?rssen, putting the family?s deep commitment to the art of the custom-built yacht in a nutshell.

Today, 25 of the Top 100 yachts have been built by L?rssen (9 of the Top 20). The founder?s dream to become one of the leading shipbuilders is still present in the spirit of L?rssen and all the people who work there ? five generations later.

Recent deliveries

In autumn 2015 L?rssen delivered two yachts: Lady Lara 91m and Golden Odyssey 123m

Lady Lara 91 m ? Her exterior and interior both are designed by Reymond Langton Design. The exterior of Lady Lara is designed around creating a harmonious balance. From a distance, the sweeping curves and elegant proportions give the vessel feminine beauty and elegance and allow the strong, masculine details to emerge; sharp lines define the strong, sculptured surfaces that have been carefully styled to create a sharp contrast with highlights and shadows that lend the superstructure a unique form that subtly changes in different lights as the sun moves across the sky.

The balance and proportion of the yacht?s profile also allows for generous exterior decks that offer range of options for guests to enjoy, from sun-drenched, open entertainment areas to more sheltered, intimate formal spaces.

Golden Odyssey 123 m (ex Project Tatiana) - A terrific yacht with an exterior design by Martin Francis. It is Mr. Francis? first collaboration with L?rssen and as can be expected, she has some great design features. The interior is designed by the Alberto Pinto Design office.
