It?s common to hear of fathers and sons working together in shipyards. So, knowing the M50 Aria from Mondomarine was designed by a father and son makes her all the more special. The father is the famous designer Giorgio Vafiadis, and his son is Stefano Inglese Vafiadis, both of Giorgio Vafiadis & Associates.
While the two conceived the yacht to welcome warm-weather breezes through as many interior areas as possible, the younger Vafiadis gets full credit for the exterior styling of the M50 Aria, measuring 161?4? (49.2 meters). Note the cut-out-like structures fully aft, as seen flanking the beach club.
To be built entirely of aluminum and meet RINA classification standards, the M50 Aria should see a 19-knot cruising speed and best range of 3,500 nautical miles at 12 knots under MTU power. The 8?5? (2.6-meter) draft is well-suited to a number of popular cruising spots. She?ll remain beneath the 500-gross-ton threshold, too.
