Many of you surely remembers the capsize of the 90 foot $10 million dollar superyacht dubbed tha ?Baaden? at its launch.
The event occurred on May 2014 at Anacortes where the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) began an investigation to find the cause of the accident.
Well now, more than a year later we know what happened, and the answer will make you smack your head.
In few words, it seems that the Baaden?s capsize was the result of a chain of misfortunes that began when the wrong weight amount for the boat?s ballast was supplied to the stability architect after initially being written down correctly near the end of construction.
So basically it was a transcription error somewhere between the cradle and the architect ? according to the NTSB.
Or the way the NTSB put it, the sinking was caused by ? ? the vessel?s low margin of stability due to the combined effects of a recording error during the final vessel weigh, which resulted in an incorrect assessment of the vessel?s center of gravity, and an overestimation of the weight of installed ballast.?
