It all started with some informal races between classic yachts in the English Harbour Antigua back in the 60s.
Then when classic yachts started to get outnumbered by sleeker modern racing yachts, Captain ?Uli Pruesse? had to do something about this and hosted a meeting onboard the Aschanti of Saba with several classic skippers in 1998, that?s how the Classic Yacht Regatta was born, with just seven boats.
Now, the Regatta hosts between 50 and 60 yachts every year and with a stunning variety of competitors such as, traditional craft from the island, classic ketches, sloops, schooners and yawls. Providing an amazing spectacle of wonderful sailing.
This year?s Classic Yacht Regatta started two days ago (April 15th) and this is the first amazing look we have of it.
