Captain Peter Murphy was the lucky captain selected by Palmer Johnson to bring this beauty to their new owner. Bill Spurr from the chronicle Herald met him recently to learn more about this mystery vessel.
?The Khalilah is en route from Sturgeon Bay, Wis., to Fort Lauderdale, where it will get some finishing cosmetic touches befitting a boat that cost between $30 million and $40 million to build, before it?s shipped to its home in the Mediterranean.
The owner is a woman from Russia, and her cabin has a king-size bed, a large TV built into a wall, electronically controlled blinds and a bathroom with marble floors, rainfall shower, bidet, wardrobe, double vanity and skylight.
All the cabins have private bathrooms, including those for the crew, most of whom live in France.
Captain Murphy reported that the boat can carry 40.000 litres of fuel and its fuel consumption at full power exceed 1000 litres per hour.
?It?s a very high-tech boat with a lot of high-tech systems in it. This is where Palmer Johnson wants to go, trying to be leading edge in the yachting world with these carbon fibre builds.
Murphy said the boat?s 5,000-horsepower engine could get them to Florida in four days, ?if all goes well.?
