Inspired by the elegant commuter yachts of the 1920s, James and Kurt Krogen set out to recreate this timeless style with their own, modern interpretation. A company separate from Kadey-Krogen Yachts was formed, and the Krogen Express 49' was introduced in 1996. This sleek, semi-displacement, twin-engine design could reach cruising speeds in the upper teens, or it could coast along at a leisurely 8 to 9 1/2 knots in displacement mode while sipping fuel.

Enamored by the boat's style and performance, John and Betsie Tegtmeyer, who once owned a Kadey-Krogen 42, purchased the Krogen Express company in 2001 and began the process of updating its design with the help of Kurt Krogen. The new, improved Krogen Express 52' was born, and it offers what the Tegtmeyers describe as "cruising without compromise". The yachts are built in Taiwan at a boat yard that, for decades, has exclusively hand-crafted Krogen designs.

This "no compromise" approach starts with the boat's trim, semi-displacement hull which delivers cruising speeds of 15-17 knots. When time allows, slowing down to displacement speeds of 8-knots results in fuel consumption of just 3 gallons per hour.

Beyond impressive performance, the Krogen Express 52' boasts comfortable, attractive living quarters, a traditional characteristic of Krogen designs. Interior joinerwork is superbly executed in rich, light-toned cherry wood. A pilothouse, separated from the main saloon, makes this a yacht for serious cruising. The walk in, stand up engine room affords full 360 degree access to both main engines, very unusual for a yacht in this size range.

During their years of ownership, the Tegtmeyers have chosen to focus on refining and improving an already popular, successful design. The results of this commitment to continuous improvement can be seen in the company's showboats that reflect over 150 "tweaks" since the launch of hull #1 of the Krogen Express 52.
