Ever since Bill Winn Sr. and his three sons undertook a small boat business in Michigan, the Four Winns empire started to evolve into one of the most significant shipyards in the nautical industry today. Presently, they are part of Rec Boat Holdings which also comprises Glastron and Wellcraft. Four Winns manufactures recreational boats with custom-matched trailers. Due to their fabulous patented stable Vee hull, it takes more than the stormy weather and rocky turns to shake their crafts so smoothest rides are guaranteed with their hull. Exquisiteness greets the passengers below deck as well. Lovely countertops, carefully patterned cabins with hand-stitched upholstery and textiles are all available below deck.

The overall length of the H290 is 30 feet and 1 inch along with a beam of 9 feet and 5 inches. She can be powered with a couple of engine options like 2 x 300 horsepower Volvo Penta V8-300 CE, 8 single and twin Volvo Penta engines with power ranging from 225 horsepower to 430 horsepower, and 12 single and twin MerCruiser engines with power from 300 horsepower to 430 horsepower. The top speed of the H290 is approximately 45 knots with a twin Volvo Penta 300 hp engine. The fuel consumption at that particular speed is around 44 gallons per hour with a range of 127 miles. However, if economic considerations are taken into account, then the best speed would be around 25 knots, give or take. At this speed, the fuel consumption is significantly reduced to 15.8 gallons per hour, which is again converted to 194 miles that she can range.
As mentioned in the introductory part, thanks to the stunning patented stable Vee hull, she simply knows her way in the water. The Four Winns H290 is specifically known for her smooth ride. Handling during the ride, with twists and turns, she is a sugar-coated boat. The vessel cuts through the waves with very little spray.
Regarding her appearance, she has a high sheer line, relatively low profile deck, a little inflection point in the back and 21st-century style. The Four Winns H290 has unique elements, both to port and starboard of the deck and there are integrated windows which give plenty of light in the cabin and the head. With the stylish and stainless steel features, it gives an up-to-date look to the boat.
A vast fiberglass platform along with the integrated deep aluminum four-step swim ladder comes standard with the H290. The platform is nicely shaped flowing with the lines of the boat. The surface of the platform can be covered with teak flooring or mat as an option. The aft back seating is comfortable and can accommodate several people. The back cushion can be transformed into a couple of options. The first option is coach seating. The second one is achieved with a press of a button and that’s a seating position for fishing for example. With this seating position, the cockpit has more space. The third position leaves very little room for sitting in the back, but the cockpit gets much more space transforming it into a sunpad.
The cockpit is a centerpiece of entertainment. The refreshment center, which is optional, comes to starboard with stainless steel sink, a refrigerator, and a bin. Nevertheless, one can choose standard seating instead of the refreshment center. The L-shaped seating occupies the port side of the boat. Storage is found underneath the settees. In the floor, two-level storage is hidden. The first level is designed for an ice box and under it, more storage space is to be found. The entertainment is boosted with a very sophisticated surround sound system within the cockpit which comprises amplifiers, two subwoofers, and six speakers. A fiberglass table can be placed in the cockpit with two cup holders.
The skipper’s bolster seat can be electrically adjusted. An adjustable steering wheel for matching multiple positions is installed to the helm console. The upper-class helm console contains various gauges to a carbon fiber panel. Garmin 741 GPS is placed to the cabin door to port of the panel. Toggle-type switches occupy a fair amount of space. Furthermore, twin Volvo Penta EVC displays, to starboard, reveal the richness of the panel. All in all, ergonomics is a keyword with the Four Winns. The color of the dash reflects the glare. And finally, one can choose joystick docking as an option. It’s quite responsive and makes docking much easier. The Head console of the H290 is to port of the helm console. It’s got several convenient features like storage area or a lockable glove box.
Behind the head console, which is at the same time a fiberglass door, one can reach the Head. It’s a large Head with plenty of headroom equipped with an elegant countertop, trashcan, toilet and a window. The small cabin is inside the helm console. It’s designed with a small berth for one person and as a changing room at the same time.
The Four Winns H290 is a very large bow rider with a tremendous bow. Comfortable seating for one person is to port. A large L-shaped sunpad is to starboard with armrests and an adjustable backrest. Handles are conveniently placed throughout the bow. It’s definitely a spacious social area just like the cockpit.
The Four Winns H290 is a genuine opulence wrapped in a sports boat package.
